Senior Software Engineer Resume template for Google Docs and WordFREE

Free Senior Software Engineer Resume Template

A resume for engineers who design systems and lead other engineers, not just write code. The layout gives each role space for scope, technical decisions and the results they produced.

The sample is a senior backend engineer with eight years across two companies, including a platform migration and a team lead period. Replace it with your own history.

Writing for senior roles

Hiring managers at this level want to see ownership: the system you were responsible for, the decision you drove, the trade-off you made and what happened after. Bullets like 'led migration of order service to event-driven architecture, cutting p99 latency 60% and enabling three new product lines' do that in one line. Mentoring, hiring and on-call leadership belong in the bullets too, not in a soft-skills list. If you've moved fully into people management, the Engineering Manager Resume is the better structure; for system-design-heavy roles, compare the Solutions Architect Resume.

Length and layout

Two pages is normal at eight years and beyond; the second page carries earlier roles in less detail. Keep the stack in a compact sidebar or a single skills line; nobody at this level needs a two-inch list of tools. The two-page resume templates show how to keep the header and spacing consistent across pages. If you're moving between companies with different application systems, keep a parser-safe copy from the ATS resume templates and the general Software Engineer Resume as a reference for the mid-level structure you're building on.
