Ordering an academic CV

Education and current appointment first, then research interests, publications (peer-reviewed separated from other work, consistent citation style, most recent first), grants and awards, presentations, teaching, and service. Move teaching above research for teaching-focused positions. Add a short research statement if the field expects it. The difference between a CV and a resume is explained on the CV templates page. Industry applications from academics should use a two-page resume instead; the Data Scientist Resume shows how research is compressed for that.

Length and format

As long as it needs to be, single-column, consistent headings, page numbers with your name in the header. The two-page resume templates show multi-page formatting mechanics. Teaching-track and K-12 applicants should use the Teacher Resume format rather than a CV.
